Last Friday was a peculiar Friday as all the films released were of directors playing the hero as well. Gauthaman in ‘Magizhchi’, Karu Palaniappan in ‘Mandhira Punnaga’ and Sundar C in ‘Nagaram’ vied for the audience interests. However none of them could evoke a tremendous initial response.
This Friday, November 25, 2010 two straight Tamil films are releasing and both have generated significant expectations on different grounds. Mysskin’s long awaited ‘Nandhalala’ and glamour actress Sona produced ‘Kanimozhi’ are the two big releases this Friday. One common thread connecting the two transversely different films is their great music.
Mysskin’s ‘Nandhalala’ is a film coming from the director after the classy ‘Anjathey’. Ayngaran International has produced the film. The film is releasing after considerable delay and allegations.
'Nandhalala' is an emotional story of a young boy and dementia man go searching for their respective mothers. A lonely soul from the slum travels with them after knowing them. People who have previewed the film say ‘Nandhalala’ is undoubtedly a pride of Tamil cinema.
Mysskin himself plays the lead role with ‘Kathazha Kannala’ Snightha and Ashwath Ram playing the other pivotal roles. A high light of ‘Nandhalala’ is going to be the music of Illayaraja who has composed a symphony for the film's background and its intense climax.
Said to be inspired from the 1999 Japanese film ‘Kikujiro’, this Mysskin film is a must watch for this weekend.
Glam doll Sona’s UNIQ productions, in association with T Siva’s Amma Creations, has produced ‘Kanimozhi’. The film has a managed a good pre-release talk apart from referring a high profile name from politics.
‘Kanimozhi’ is a pure romance starring Jai and debutante Shazahn Padamsee is from Bollywood who was the heroine of the hit Hindi film Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year.
‘Kanimozhi’ is a clean and entertaining romance with its own moments of joy. The film is directed by Sripathy Rangasamy who was an associate of Venkat Prabhu in Chennai 28. Music by Sathish Chakravarthy will be a main crowd puller for this film as the songs have already topped the charts. Really good songs have done the promotions very well before the release.
Otherwise on the dubbed movies front ‘Valiba Vilaiyattu’ using the name of ‘Ambasamuthiram Ambani’ fame Navneet Kaur and the dubbed version of Blood and Sand as Basic Instinct-4 using the name of Sharon Stone also got some non-urban theatres.
Both the Tamil films of this week ‘Nandhalala’ and ‘Kanimozhi’ are worth a watch for good reasons.
