‘Iyakkunar Sigaram’ K Balachandar has been selected for the International ANR Award this year. This was announced by Tollywood’s veteran actor A Nageswara Rao, father of Nagarjuna. The award distribution ceremony will be held on January 11th, 2011 in Hyderabad.

Both A Nageswara Rao and Nagarjuna met the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy to invite him to grace the occasion. The CM will hand over the award to K Balachander during this function.

On selecting K Balachander, Nageswara Rao said that the director has given several hits in Tamil and Telugu besides directing a number of television serials.

No more Tamil films for Tammannah

Tammannah is awaiting the release of Siruthai, in which she is paired opposite Karthi, and now has the Dhanush-starrer Vengai. The actress, sources say, has not accepted any other offer in Kollywood. When enquiries were made, it was said that Tammannah has some prestigious offers from the Telugu film industry which she could not refuse. As a result, Tammannah is declining opportunities here.

Sources say that the actress has a busy schedule till December 2011 and if at all she accepts any other projects in Tamil it would be for 2012.

Dhanush is 'Karuppu'

The name of the character Dhanush plays in his Pongal release 'Aadukalam' is Karuppu, say reliable sources in the unit. "It is a lively and rare role for any actor and Dhanush has performed it with elan," they say.

"He initially found it tough to master the Madurai slang for Aadukalam. However, he practiced hard and finally came out with a very good performance," maintain sources.

Elaborating more on Karuppu, they say, "He is one person who is so outspoken. This trait of him makes him land in troubles. How he overcomes everything is the crux of the story."

Songs from 'Aadukalam', set to tune by G V Prakash Kumar, have already become hits. Directed by Vettrimaran of 'Polladhavan' fame, the film distributed by Sun Pictures is expected to be a sure shot this harvest festival.

Venkat Prabhu has already completed shooting for couple of tracks including title song in Bangkok. Without a doubt, it is ensuring that the filmmaker is going at right momentum so as to complete the project at scheduled time.

Asin opposite Shah Rukh Khan?

Initially Saif Ali Khan and Priyanka Chopra were chosen for the roles. However, they were later dropped due to some issues. Sources say that Katrina Kaif has fewer chances to bag the role as she wouldn’t fit the role of a Tamilian. While Asin has already proved of her proficiency as a Brahmin girl in Kamal Haasan’s ‘Dasavatharam’, which becomes an added advantage.

‘Siruthai’ and ‘Veppam’

Kollywood witnessed the audio launches of two much awaited films today. One is ‘Siruthai’, the Karthi-Tamannah starrer and the other is ‘Veppam’, a film produced by Gautam Vasudev Menon.

Vidyasagar has composed music for ‘Siruthai’, which is directed by Siva and produced by Studio Green. With the film’s trailer already rocking, its songs have created huge expectations.

Adding to it is the recent speech of Suriya at the trailer launch of the film. “Vidyasagar’s songs are my energizers. I would listen to his music while working hard at gym,” the top actor said.

Directed by Anjana, a former associate of Gautam, ‘Veppam’ marks the reentry of music composer Joshua Sridhar, who made waves with ‘Kadhal’, a production venture of director Shankar.

“The film is set in north Chennai,” sources say. Cinematography is by Om Prakash while lyrics are by Na Muthukumar. Editing is being taken care of by Anthony.

Trisha was one of the three prominent personalities who came together in Chennai on Wednesday to honour the winners of a contest at the Silk Mark Expo, an initiative of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

The other two special guests were veteran Bollywood actress Hema Malini and ace Carnatic vocalist Sudha Ragunathan. Interestingly, all the three happen to be the brand ambassadors of a popular textile chain in Tamil Nadu.

The 30 winners participated in an SMS contest that had questions on three varieties of the saris. They were selected through a lucky draw contest and were gifted silk saris, which were designed to give a blend of tradition and modernity.

The ‘Student No 1’ actor, according to sources, has some other projects too on his sleeve. “He is also planning to float his own production house which would give opportunities to fresh talents,” sources add.
